Financial Resources

Attending college is all fun, until the hidden costs begin to appear. The FIRST Resource Center offers a range of resources to help students in the center reach their opportunities. We understand that while Tufts covers the basic needs, there are additional costs that can be stressful for a college student to handle by themselves. Below are a list of financial resources the FIRST Resource Center offers students who are low income, first-generation, and/or undocumented.

Academics Resources

Book It Forward allows you to donate and access a book for free for a whole semester. Students on financial aid have access to the library.

Study abroad assistance is available for students with an Expected Family Contribution under $10,000. The student will recieve a $1,500 stipend to assist with flights, visas, and other travel-related expenses.

Supply pantry has school supplies that are readily available for students who are on financial aid. For access, students should email FIRST@tufts.edu.


Food Resources

Swipe It Forward allows for students to donate a meal swipe to other students who are in need of a meal swipe. Through this program, a student can donate and access a meal to use at locations on campus that take meal swipes.

Requesting meals during breaks is a resource we offer as well. Students who are on a meal plan and regsister to stay on campus over break times can access this resource.


Health and Wellness Resources

Health insurance is offered for students whose Expected
Family Contribution is $10,000 and below.

Co-pays and treatment costs can be partially covered.
Students with an Expected Family Contribution of $10,000 and below, have access to a $300 fund every 12 months to aid wtih additional medical costs.

Winter housing can be covered for students who plan on
staying on Tufts campus over winter break.


Unexpected Hardship Fund

Things arise during the college experience that are unexpected. We hope that each of our students reach all their opportunities. The Unexpected Hardship Fund can be requested by students in the FIRST Center community for costs they do not have funds for. Past requests have been for: presenting at a conferece, equipment for sports, plane tickets for COVID-19 cirumstance, etc..
